The Purpose Challenge: A Clear Path to Your Life Purpose

Most people don’t fail to discover their life purpose because they are lazy, broken, or uninterested in meaning. In fact, the opposite is usually true. The people who struggle the most with purpose tend to be thoughtful, responsible, and deeply invested in living a good life. They read books, listen to podcasts, pray, reflect, and try to make wise decisions. Yet they still carry a lingering sense that something is missing. Not chaos. Not crisis. Just a quiet lack of clarity. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Over time, the topic of purpose can become something we quietly avoid. I once invited a man to join a purpose challenge with me and a small group of others. He looked at me and said, “I can’t talk about that.” There was no anger in his voice, just fear and pain. For many people, the possibility of missing their purpose feels too heavy to look at directly, so it lives quietly beneath the surface of everyday life.

Five reasons many people never discover their life purpose

1. You were taught to build your life around a career instead of a calling.

From an early age, the education system subtly trains us to believe that choosing a career is the primary point of life. By the time we are 18, it can feel as though selecting the “right” job will determine our worth, identity, and future happiness. Purpose becomes reduced to productivity, and meaning gets tied to a title instead of who we are becoming.

2. You are waiting on God to reveal your purpose.

I believe deeply that God desires to work powerfully through our lives. At the same time, I have watched many faith-based people live with quiet frustration as they wait for a clear sign, a perfect moment, or a dramatic revelation of God’s will. In the waiting, purpose can begin to feel distant and mysterious, rather than something that can be explored, clarified, and lived out in real time.

3. Your life is busy and reflection gets postponed.

Work demands our attention. Families need care. Houses need cleaning. Cars break down. The list never ends. Purpose gets pushed to “someday.” Often, it isn’t until midlife, sometimes sparked by a sentimental movie or a quiet holiday moment, that deeper questions resurface. By then, many people feel behind, unsure, or regretful about time lost.

4. Your problems take away your focus.

When life feels messy, purpose can feel like a luxury. Who has time to think about calling when relationships are strained, finances are tight, or personal struggles feel overwhelming? We spend our energy trying to fix our problems, or hide them, while purpose quietly waits for space to be acknowledged.

5. You’ve never been guided through a process of discovering your purpose.

We teach children how to play sports. We train adults how to do their jobs. We provide systems and coaching for nearly every skill we value. Somehow we avoid one of the most important questions a person can ask: Why am I here? In our culture, purpose is assumed to be something you either stumble upon or magically figure out on your own. Very few people are ever given a guided experience that brings real clarity.

An invitation: Want to discover your purpose?

If any of these reasons resonate with you, please hear this clearly: struggling to know your purpose does not mean you’ve failed. It usually means you’ve never been given the space, guidance, or conversation needed to bring clarity. Purpose is not something reserved for a select few. It is something that can be explored, named, and lived, often in simple, practical ways.

That’s why I created the Purpose Challenge. It’s a free, small-group, guided conversation designed to help people slow down, reflect honestly, and begin putting words to what matters most. This isn’t a course or a lecture. It’s a shared experience that creates room for clarity to emerge.

If you’ve sensed that quiet lack of clarity in your own life, I’d love for you to join us. Sometimes the first step toward purpose isn’t finding the right answer, it’s entering the right conversation.
