In this episode Mark and Adena talk about a conversation that happened on a road trip. Many people are afraid of deep honesty…even with their spouse. But deep honesty can lead to real freedom.
On the road trip Mark told Adena “It's not you, it's just me.” Adena shared what she meant by this statement.
- Instead of being honest about yourself, it's much easier to blame someone else.
- Honesty is powerful. You feel so loved when you are honest and they want to love you, even when you are weak or messy. That creates a bold connection.
- Being honest that “it’s just me” can be hard, but both of you understand that it is because you love them. If you have a safe place to be real, you both benefit from it.
- If we’re OK with the truth that “it’s just me” it brings a freedom in the relationship that you can’t have without it.
